This Education Called LIFE

Have you ever wondered what exactly happened to our life? As we journey through life, let us then take a break every now and then in order to reflect on our past events. As we do that, we can realise that it is as if we are reading a book- the book of our life. With that reflection,  we should always be glad to be active participants of such journey. As we wake up each day, fresh and new learnings embrace us and they could help us proceed with our own development.

On the other hand, there is no such limit and boundary over our learnings. It only takes our commitment to participate fully in this journey which expect us to make a difference in our life. One noteworthy

in life is when we share our various giftedness with each other. As we go on with our everyday learnings, we also grow in our awareness over life's excellent stories.

As one writer would tell us, he said that " Self-education is, I firmly believe that the only kind of education there is." -Isaac Asimov.  One way or the other, we could agree with Isaac and that as we enter each day, we as a result start to learn new things that contribute colours to this wonderful journey. Numerous people have joined us in this journey most notably those significant others in our life.

Hence, as we go on with this trip called LIFE, may we also unceasingly reflect on Isaac's words above and let us be the best persons that we can be. As such, all of us can become agents of joy and growth for others.

Life as a Basketball Game

As I watched a basketball game between two opposing teams, I could not help but also reflect on life as a basketball game itself.  And just like any team in a basketball game, here are my observations in life being compared to it:

a. different positions-center, forward, guard, etc. these are the different positions in a basketball game. And in life, we ought to play various roles in one way or the other. And in order for one to be effective on any of this role, he needs to acquaint himself with all the roles and responsibilities that this role requires. In life, we also need to know what then are our various roles in the different areas we are in such as the family, community, workplace, society. Being knowledgeable on our very own "SELF" allows us to effectively play our respective roles.

b. teamwork- a very essential ingredient in the game of basketball. Teamwork brings the team to the road of success. That's exactly what we need in life- we ought to have that good teamwork with others especially with our loved ones. And we will only succeed in this one if we are able to understand others on both ends- meaning both in their good and bad sides of life.

c. cohesion- as a result of teamwork, we can expect a cohesion within the team and this is exactly will happen to life when we experience a smooth sailing relationship with others close to us and also those outside of our inner circles. Each day then becomes an interesting page to life's chapter- full of surprises and wonderful moments.

d. coach- finally to mould all the talents in a basketball team, it requires a learned and a magnificent coach to combine, discover and develop the individual talent of each member. Hence the coach plays such an important role- to monitor and make it sure that each member is playing according to the standards of the team.

In life, we also need cooperate to our coach- our Lord Above- who knows exactly our strengths and weaknesses. We can't just keep on playing the game of life but somehow, in any stage of it, we need to reflect and listen to the instructions of our Heavenly Coach.

Hence, when we know how to incorporate all these factors, just like in any basketball game, we will also trek the positive side of life journey.

What's Up for the Holiday Season

Starting next week, school kids will have their two- week holidays. They are all now excited to spend this school break in plenty of plans like camping, a trip to the snow, visiting museums, and others. And amidst all these hectic schedules and plans for the school break, we are caught up, at times, in our everyday endeavours with all the demands and challenges of such a season. Yet when we come to our loved ones, we should unceasingly remind ourselves to endow to them the best of everything.

In my own way, I want my kid to remember the value of sharing on this holiday season. Indeed I want him to appreciate lots of joy in the element of sharing. As a father to this five year old so loveable boy,  I always want him to relive with others the feeling of being so wonderful when he is able to share his presence, time, toys and everything with them. The idea of sharing goes beyond one's limitations such as physical, social, psychological and others. When we can muster sufficient courage to embrace our limitations then continue to share ourselves to others, I believe that such thing counts as one of those essential things in life.

Hence, try to spend a little while to think your own particular way of spending the holiday season with your kids. Be able to share with others especially your time for there is nothing that can replace it even all the latest gadgets we have nowadays.

A Prayer For My Children

Borrowed Post:

Thank you for entrusting these
precious children into my care.

I pray that You will grant them
complete knowledge of Your will.

Bless them with all spiritual
wisdom and understanding.

I pray that my children
will always honour and please you, Father.
May their lives produce every kind of good fruit.

All the while, I ask that they will
grow to know You more deeply.

Through your power,
give them the endurance
and patience they need.

May they always be filled
with gratitude toward You.

AMEN.

based on Colossians1:9-11

Special thanks to Saint Stephen's Catholic Primary School for sharing this prayer on their Newsletter issue Monday, 20th February 2017. Our beloved son, Kurt, goes to this school and I greatly appreciate the kind of journey that he is taking there through the guidance of his teacher, Laura, all the teachers, staff and their principal, Christine.

Colours of Life

Have you ever wondered why are there different colours on a rainbow? In fact, a rainbow is composed of seven colours such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.  That when one colour is intertwined with the rest of those colours, this resulted to a magnificently designed rainbow.

According to Wikipedia, " a rainbow is a meteorological phenomenom that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured arc."

One occasion, while watching a rainbow in the sky, a reflection  dawned on me about life itself. And I  realised that life on itself is a mix and interactions of so many factors. Colours of life could refer to the various stages and chapters that we can be in. Or these colours could also represent the various phases of emotions we come into experience each single day.

Moreover, while I consider myself and others as an active or passive onlookers of any rainbow, we could also take part either in a very crucial way or a mere participant on these colours of life. As William Ernest Henley said in his poem Invictus, "  ...I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."....we also are responsible how to incorporate the different colours of our lives.

And it would never be the responsibility of others to check on our growth but rather, we are solely accountable on how we become in the future. Finally, others can only accompany us on this journey but the consequence to any choice that we will take will be our call. At the end of the day, it's us who either will make or break these colours of our life.
